From Youlgreave (also spelt Youlgrave and Youlegreave) we’re treated to panoramic views as we go cross country to Pilsbury Valley where we’re greeted by some of its memory-inscribed millennium boundary stones.
The River Dove is our companion as we explore a wonderful isolated gated lane and where we take in views of the Derbyshire Dales from this exclusive location. A little ‘audience participation’ is needed here to help open the gates as we make our way along the lane!
We’re reminded of bygone days as our surroundings hark back to how farming was last century, and scenes from All Creatures Great and Small spring to mind.
Our next stop is the pretty village of Hartington with its duck pond, village square, shops and quaint stone houses. It’s home to the famous Hartington Stilton, and we stop in at The Hartington Old Cheese Shop to view their wares. We stop for tea in Hartington too. Whether we opt for the grandeur of a 17th century manor house or a rustic farm shop tearoom, we’re refuelled and recharged ready to take in the sights and sounds of our return journey.
We head back through the 19th century shopping mall of Winster and the quaint village of Elton to Youlgreave.
Why not make your day more memorable? Indulge in a homemade, traditionally English picnic in a handpicked location carefully chosen for its idyllic countryside setting.

This was a charming and delightful experience for a belated 60th birthday. The whole tour with Steven and his wonderful vintage car was exceptional. Cosy blankets and hot water bottles were provided as a little extra and Steven gave us his full attention from start to finish. We did the Mr Darcy’s Dales tour taking in such wonderful views and making some lovely memories.
Having taken many tours over the years in many places, I can honestly say that riding with Steven and Vintage Adventure Tours was the best we’ve ever done. So charming, so personal, so well-prepared for us. Steven was a delight and I could not recommend him and his tour company any more highly. Thank you again, Steven, for the experience of a lifetime!
We had a terrific day with Steven and his beautiful car. From the moment we started until the end of the tour my husband and I were both smiling and the tour exceeded both of our expectations. Steven is a really lovely man and shared with us his extensive knowledge of this beautiful area. We would really recommend this unique and fun way to see absolutely stunning scenery and spend a day in the gorgeous Peak District.
