We begin with spectacular views from Monsal Head across Monsal Dale and Monsal Trail. Then we put the Monsal Head Hotel behind us as we make our way to the elevated village of Cressbrook, set in the side of the steep dale.
Views of the delightfully named Water-cum-Jolly Dale greet us as we pass through Litton to Tideswell, and we spot the Cathedral of the Peak before heading to Castleton and its caves. Famous for the Blue John Caverns and semi-precious stone, we take some time to browse the shops.
An ascent up the dramatic Winnatts Pass – once under a tropical sea – puts the car through its paces before we climb up and over the third highest hill in the Peaks. Narrow lanes lead us to a long climb up to Stanage Edge where we look over some of the most picturesque villages in England, and whet our appetite for a superb surprise…
A descent into Hathersage takes us to our tea stop at the famous David Mellor Design Museum Café.
On our return we step back in time when we enter Eyam – The Plague Village. After indulging in some spectacular scenery and a last surprise, we make our way back to Monsal Head.
